Why we built a smarter plant pot — and what it actually measures
The story behind our Smart Plant Pot: soil moisture, ambient light, and temperature sensing for people who love plants but forget to water them.
Why We Built a Smarter Plant Pot
We love plants. We also kill them. Not on purpose — just by forgetting.
The Problem
Most plant deaths come down to three things:
- Overwatering or underwatering — the #1 killer
- Wrong light conditions — that corner is darker than you think
- Temperature stress — drafts and heating vents are sneaky
What We Measure
The Meegy Smart Plant Pot has three sensors built into the base:
Soil Moisture
A capacitive sensor (no corrosion) reads moisture levels every 30 minutes. When the soil drops below your plant's threshold, you get a gentle push notification.
Ambient Light
An LDR sensor tracks daily light exposure in lux-hours. We compare it against your plant species' needs and flag if it's getting too much or too little.
Temperature
A thermistor near the soil surface catches temperature swings. If it drops below 10°C or spikes above 35°C, you'll know.
No Subscription Required
All data stays on-device and syncs to the Meegy app over Bluetooth LE. No cloud dependency, no monthly fee.
